Template:R with Wikidata item
When used with the "Redirect category shell" (Rcat shell) template:
This page is a redirect. The following categories are used to track and monitor this redirect:
|
- Template Redirect category shell may be used to add one or more rcat templates, along with their parameters and categories, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation page below.
When used by itself:
- From a cross-project redirect: This is a redirect from a title linked to an item on Wikidata. The Wikidata item linked to this page is Lua error in Module:Wd at line 632: attempt to index field 'wikibase' (a nil value). (Lua error in Module:Wd at line 632: attempt to index field 'wikibase' (a nil value).).
- Use this template only on hard redirects – for soft redirects use .
This template is used on many pages. To avoid large-scale disruption and unnecessary server load, any changes to this template should first be tested in its /sandbox or /testcases subpages or in your own user subpage. The tested changes can then be added to this page in one single edit. Please consider discussing any changes on the talk page before implementing them. |
If you plan to make breaking changes to this template, move it, or nominate it for deletion, please notify Twinkle's users and maintainers at Wikipedia talk:Twinkle as a courtesy, as the standard installation of Twinkle adds and removes this template. Thank you! |
This template should not be substituted nor used to tag soft redirects. |
Usage
- This a special redirect (rcat) template. It is "special" because it tags hard redirects that are connected to items on Wikidata. Use the TSoft redirect with Wikidata item rcat template to tag soft redirects that connect to Wikidata items. Add this rcat to a redirect page (not a talk-page redirect) in the following manner:
#REDIRECT (target article title)

- Template Rcat shell is an alias for the Redirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation on its template page. This rcat may also tag a redirect individually:
#REDIRECT (target article title)#(target list entry section/anchor)
R with Wikidata item
- This is in accord with instructions found at Wikipedia:REDCAT.
- Use this rcat on all hard redirects in any namespace from titles that are used as connections to other Wikimedia projects. See the category for examples.
Parameter
This rcat takes one unnamed parameter, |1=(Wikidata item #)
, that may be used when a Wikidata "Q" number does not readily fill in, and you know that it exists on Wikidata. Examples follow:
#REDIRECT (target article title)

- where the item number on Wikidata is Q21491525 – the "Q" prefix is optional:
#REDIRECT (target article title)

This template will automatically enter the item number if the redirect title is on Wikidata and is linked from that page. Any editor who is familiar with Wikidata can connect a redirect page to a Wikidata item, if also adding a redirect badge (usually intentional sitelink to redirect (Q70894304)) to it. See also the d:Help:Sitelinks page on Wikidata. |

Error detection
This template automatically places redirects that are not linked to Wikidata items in the tracking category Category:Unlinked Wikidata redirects. Please fix these, either by removing TR with Wikidata item or by linking them to Wikidata (using the Lua error in Module:Wd at line 632: attempt to index field 'wikibase' (a nil value). (Q70894304) badge to avoid running into an error).
Printworthiness
Please do not alter the printworthy settings of any rcat without first notifying the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, who are responsible for any and all materials, including redirects, that go into a printed version of Wikipedia. |
- In main-article namespace, many redirects with Wikidata items are considered printworthy; however, there are also many that are unprintworthy, so there is no default sort for printworthiness. In 2003, efforts were begun to support the Wikimedia Foundation's goal of increasing access and availability of Wikipedia articles in printed versions. Some rcat templates automatically populate either Category:Printworthy redirects or Category:Unprintworthy redirects by default. Others, like this rcat template, do not, and that means it is up to editors to choose which of those categories, Printworthy or Unprintworthy, is appropriate and should be populated. The rcats that are used to populate those categories are:
- R printworthy and
- R unprintworthy
- Please click on each one for more details and guidance.
- Examples:

- Either Redirect category shell or its alias/shortcut, Rcat shell , may be used.
